SCENE 01 / STEADICAM GIMBAL OPERATION
Steadicam & Gimbal Services
Professional stabilized camera operation for smooth, dynamic shots across Iceland.
Here is how this works in practice. Steadicam and gimbal systems deliver smooth, stabilized camera movement that follows action through dynamic environments. Whether tracking across Iceland's volcanic landscapes or handling Reykjavík's compact city centre, these tools cut unwanted vibration and shake, enabling operators to execute fluid tracking shots, walk-and-talks, and complex choreographed sequences with cinematic precision.
Here is the short of it. We connect you with skilled Steadicam and gimbal operators who bring both tech proficiency and creative instinct to your production. Working with Icelandic gear providers like Pegasus Pictures and Reykjavík's production rental network, our team sets up the right stabilization platform for your camera package and shooting needs, making sure seamless integration with your camera department.

On Location
Our Steadicam and gimbal operators deliver fluid moving shots across Iceland's uneven terrain — lava fields, glacier ice and the black sands of Reynisfjara — where a tripod will not go.
Here is how this works in practice. We supply Steadicam and gimbal operators whose value shows on exactly the ground Iceland is full of: broken lava, loose volcanic scree, snowfields and the shifting black sand of beaches like Reynisfjara. Our operators run classic sled-based Steadicam rigs and today's stabilised gimbals, choosing the system to suit the shot, the camera body and the conditions.
Here is the short of it. Wind is the defining tech factor here — a gimbal that handles a calm interior behaves very in new ways on an exposed Highland plateau — so our operators rehearse moves, weight rigs rightly and plan with the DP for the gusts that Icelandic coasts deliver. Cold adds its own discipline: we warm batteries, manage condensation when gear crosses from heated cars into sub-zero air, and rotate operators on long carrying days because rig fatigue compounds in the cold.
Here is the breakdown. We balance for ARRI, RED and Sony cinema bodies, work alongside the camera department on follow-focus and tracking, and bring in extra operators from the UK and mainland Europe for shoots that need many moving cameras at once.
Here is what that looks like on the ground. Iceland gives stabilised camera moves a landscape of dramatic, walkable scale: a subarctic island on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where a single location can carry a shot through lava, moss and glacial ice. Productions from 'Game of Thrones' to Nolan's 'Interstellar' used the country precisely for ground that reads as otherworldly on camera. The terrain that makes those shots compelling also demands care — much of it is fragile, with moss and lava that recover only over decades, so our operators plan walking lines that follow durable ground and respect the 'leave no trace' principle, setting up with the Environment Agency of the country in covered areas such as Þingvellir National Park and the Vatnajökull National Park.
Here is how the picture comes together. The light is part of the planning too: long raking Midnight Sun in summer for extended moving takes. A short, low midwinter window that concentrates the shooting day. Eligible operator and gear spend can count toward the country's production reimbursement of 25 per cent, rising to 35 per cent for qualifying projects, administered by Film in the country.
FAQ
Our Equipment & Expertise
When should I choose Steadicam versus gimbal stabilization?
Steadicam excels at long takes, heavy cinema cameras, and smooth organic movement. Gimbals give more mobility for run-and-gun situations, lighter setups, and dynamic low-angle shots. Many shoots use both based on specific shot needs.
What camera systems can your operators support?
Our operators work with all major cinema cameras including ARRI Alexa, RED, Sony Venice, and Blackmagic on Steadicam rigs. Gimbal operators support these plus lighter systems like Canon C300, Sony FX6, and mirrorless cameras.
How much rehearsal time is needed for complex Steadicam shots?
Complex choreographed shots mostly need 1-2 hours of on-set rehearsal. For elaborate one-take sequences, we recommend a dedicated rehearsal day or half-day before the actual shoot.
Do operators bring their own equipment?
Most of our Steadicam operators are owner-operators with their own rigs. Gimbal gear can be operator-owned or rented separately. We set up gear sourcing based on your production's needs and budget.
Can you combine Steadicam with other camera movement?
Yes. We often execute shots that combine Steadicam or gimbal with dollies, cranes, cars, and cable cam systems. Complex sequences need extra planning and planning.
What are typical day rates for Steadicam operators?
Day rates differ based on operator experience, gear had, and production type. Rates cover the operator and their stabilization rig. Camera, lenses, and accessories are mostly separate. Contact us for specific quotes.
