SCENE 01 / WIRELESS MICROPHONE SYSTEMS
Wireless Microphone Systems
Professional wireless audio for your Icelandic production.
Here is how this works in practice. Wireless microphone systems enable untethered audio capture, giving talent freedom of movement while keeping broadcast-quality sound. Modern digital wireless systems give reliable transmission, wide frequency range, and encryption to avoid interference in complex RF environments common on busy sets.
Here is the short of it. We source and set up wireless microphone systems with the frequency bands and channel counts your production needs. Our team handles range planning and makes sure backup units are ready, so your sound department can operate confidently across many shooting locations.

On Location
Running wireless microphones in Iceland means working within spectrum licensed by Fjarskiptastofa while keeping lavs reliable across exposed locations from Thingvellir to the black sands of Reynisfjara.
Here is how this works in practice. Our team supplies wireless microphone systems with the frequency bands, channel counts and antenna distribution your production needs, and handles the planning that keeps them clean. Before the shoot we scan each location, allocate clear frequencies and, where needed, register range use with Fjarskiptastofa, the Electronic Communications Office of Iceland, the body that governs RF in the country. We set up lav channels against IEMs, wireless video and comms so nothing collides.
Here is the short of it. Concealment matters in the country: lavalier rigs must be hidden under heavy weatherproof costume for cold-weather scenes, kept dry against spray and meltwater, and covered from blowing volcanic grit. We give subminiature lavs, moisture protection and trusted mounting, and condition transmitter batteries for the cold. Wireless stock comes from the skilled Reykjavik rental base. For large casts we supplement transmitters, receivers and antenna gear from suppliers in the UK and mainland Europe under ATA carnet, since the country sits outside the EU customs union. Each unit is bench-tested. We carry backup channels because a remote Highland location is hours from any replacement.
Here is the breakdown. Iceland's RF environment is, in most of the country, refreshingly quiet. Outside Reykjavik the island is sparsely populated, with little of the dense broadcast and mobile congestion that crowds the range in larger countries. This can make clean wireless channels easier to find at remote sites like Landmannalaugar, Myvatn or the Vatnajoekull glacier. The trade-off is site-level: lavs must survive driving wind on the Snaefellsnes peninsula, spray off Skogafoss and Gullfoss, glacial meltwater near Jokulsarlon, and rapid weather change.
Here is what that looks like on the ground. Range can be tested by terrain, with rift walls at Thingvellir and lava fields shadowing signal, so antenna placement is planned per setup. The country is not in the EU but is part of the EEA, EFTA and Schengen, and its range rules are administered nationally by Fjarskiptastofa. Productions from 'Game of Thrones' to 'Interstellar' have worked these landscapes. Dependable wireless capture is what frees talent to move across them.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What wireless systems do you recommend?
For pro narrative work, we recommend Lectrosonics Digital or Wisycom for their audio quality, reliability, and spectral efficiency. Zaxcom gives recording-capable transmitters. For budget-conscious shoots, Sennheiser EW-D gives great value.
How many wireless channels can you provide?
We can give as many channels as your production needs—from single transmitters to dozens of set up channels for large cast shoots. Our frequency planning makes sure all channels operate without interference.
What lavalier microphones do you stock?
We carry DPA 4060 and 6060 (subminiature), Sanken COS-11D, Sennheiser MKE series, and Countryman lavalieres. Each has different traits suited to many concealment and sound needs.
How do you handle frequency coordination?
We scan your locations to identify clean frequencies and set up all wireless systems to avoid interference. This has both your wireless mics and any other RF gear like wireless video or IEMs.
What about range and coverage?
Range depends on the system and environment. We configure antenna distribution and RF cables to make sure reliable coverage for your shooting area. For large locations, we can give many receiver setups.
Do you provide backup equipment?
Yes, we recommend and can give backup transmitters and receivers for longer shoots. Having backup wireless protects your production against gear failures.
