SCENE 01 / POWER SOLUTIONS

Power Solutions

Professional production power for your Icelandic production.

Scroll

Here is how this works in practice. Power solutions for film production cover portable power packs, battery systems, solar rigs, and hybrid setups that deliver reliable electricity in any location. Choosing the right power way depends on load needs, noise restrictions, site-level considerations, and the logistical constraints of each shooting environment.

Here is the short of it. We check your production's power needs and source appropriate solutions from local providers, whether that means quiet power packs for dialogue scenes, high-capacity units for large lighting setups, or battery systems for remote locations. Our team manages delivery, fueling, and tech support across your shoot.

On Location

Powering an Iceland shoot means quiet generators for dialogue scenes, conditioned battery systems for remote Highland sites, and tie-ins to a 230V grid that runs on close to 100 percent renewable energy.

Here is how this works in practice. Our team assesses your production's load and sources the right power way for each location: super-silent power packs positioned close to set for sound-sensitive scenes, high-capacity units for large lighting packages, and V-mount, Gold-mount and block battery systems for camera and small-unit work at remote sites. Iceland's mains is 230V at 50Hz. Where a location has a clean grid connection a tie-in can be the most economical and quietest option. Where it does not, power packs carry the shoot. Battery and power packs stock comes from the skilled Reykjavik rental base.

Here is the short of it. For larger shoots we supplement power packs, distribution and battery systems from suppliers in the UK and mainland Europe under ATA carnet, since the country is outside the EU customs union. Cold drains batteries fast, so we condition and over-provision, and we plan fuel supply and resupply for multi-day operation at distant locations. Power packs, cable and connectors are weatherproofed against wind, blowing grit and glacial damp, we work with licensed Icelandic electricians, and we give on-call tracking and fuel planning so power never interrupts the schedule.

Here is the breakdown. Iceland gives an unusually clean power base alongside genuine logistical demands. The country runs on close to 100 percent renewable electricity from geothermal and hydroelectric generation, so mains where ready. This includes Reykjavik stages such as RVK Studios in Gufunes, is stable. But it is a large, sparsely populated subarctic island of around 103,000 square kilometres, and much of it is shot far from any grid: the glacier country below Vatnajoekull, the lava fields of Myvatn, the Highlands at Landmannalaugar and Thorsmoerk, reachable only in summer via F-roads needing 4x4 super-jeeps.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Sound-sensitive exteriors near waterfalls and quiet rift valleys at Thingvellir need genuinely silenced power packs. Weather changes fast, summer runs nearly round the clock under the Midnight Sun while winter is short and cold, and fuel logistics stretch over long distances. Productions from 'Game of Thrones' to 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' have powered shoots across these conditions, where a well-planned power solution keeps a remote unit running reliably and quietly.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What size generators do you provide?

We supply power packs from small 20kW portable units to large 500kW tow-behind power packs. Most narrative shoots use power packs in the 60-150kW range, based on lighting needs. We can calculate the right size for your needs.

Are your generators suitable for film sets?

Yes, we give super-silent power packs designed for film production. These units are baffled and housed to cut noise, allowing them to be positioned closer to set without interfering with sound recording.

Can you coordinate tie-ins?

Yes, we can set up building tie-ins where appropriate and permitted. Tie-ins can be more economical for studio work or locations with enough electrical infrastructure. Our team handles all planning with building management.

What battery systems do you offer?

We stock V-mount and Gold mount batteries from Anton Bauer, IDX, and others for cinema cameras and accessories. We also give block batteries for larger gear and complete charging solutions for multi-camera shoots.

Do you provide electricians?

Yes, we work with qualified Icelandic electricians skilled in film production. Having local electrical crew makes sure compliance with Icelandic rules and efficient, safe power distribution.

What about remote locations?

We can power shoots in remote locations across Iceland. This has setting up power packs delivery, fuel supply, and tech support for locations without convenient grid access.

Productions in Iceland that need this often pair it with Power Distribution Systems for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Lighting Equipment Rental and Audio Equipment Rental.
