Power Distribution Systems
Safe, reliable on-set power for film and TV production in Iceland.
Here is how this works in practice. Power distribution systems safely route electrical today's from power packs or mains sources to lighting, camera, and production gear across a set. Pro distro boxes, cable runs, and breaker panels make sure balanced loads, proper grounding, and safe power delivery to each department.
Here is the short of it. We give power distribution systems configured for your production's electrical needs and set layout. Our team sets up with your gaffer and best boy to make sure the right capacity, cable lengths, and safety gear are in place for each location on your schedule.

On Location
Power distribution on an Iceland shoot routes current safely from generators and 230V mains across exposed exteriors and historic interiors, on a grid that runs on close to 100 percent renewable energy.
Here is how this works in practice. Our team designs and installs power distribution scaled to your lighting and gear load, with distro boxes, sub-distribution, feeder runs and breaker protection planned for each location. Iceland's mains is 230V at 50Hz. We configure systems and adapters to match, calculating loads with the gaffer and best boy and building in headroom for startup surges. Much of the country is shot far from any mains supply, so distribution is often planned around power packs, with cable runs, ramps and protection laid for ground that ranges from black sand to lava.
Here is the short of it. Distribution gear comes from the skilled Reykjavik rental base. For larger shoots we supplement distro, feeder cable and load-management gear from suppliers in the UK and mainland Europe under ATA carnet, since the country is outside the EU customs union. All gear is weatherproofed against wind, cold, blowing volcanic grit and glacial meltwater, RCD protection is used across, and gear is tested before delivery. We work with licensed Icelandic electricians for tie-ins to venue power and make sure each install complies with Icelandic electrical rules.
Here is the breakdown. Iceland's power picture has real advantages and real constraints. The country runs on close to 100 percent renewable electricity from geothermal and hydroelectric generation, so where mains exists it is stable and clean, and Reykjavik stages and many serviced locations connect readily. The constraint is distance: a large, sparsely populated subarctic island of around 103,000 square kilometres, much of it is shot at sites with no grid access at all, from the Highlands at Landmannalaugar, reachable only in summer via F-roads needing 4x4 super-jeeps, to remote stretches of the Ring Road.
Here is what that looks like on the ground. Historic and covered sites, churches and turf buildings need careful, non-damaging cabling and venue planning. Weather changes fast, so distribution must take wind, cold and damp. Productions from 'Game of Thrones' to 'Interstellar' have powered large lighting setups across these conditions, where safe, well-planned distribution keeps a crew working reliably and within Icelandic electrical rules.
FAQ
Power Distribution Expertise
What generator sizes do you provide?
We supply power packs from 20kVA to 500kVA including super-silent units for sound-sensitive shoots. Multi-power packs setups for larger power needs. Battery hybrid systems and tow plant units for many location needs.
How do you calculate power requirements?
We perform detailed load calculations based on your lighting package, camera and DIT needs, video village, and all other electrical needs. We factor in startup loads and give appropriate headroom for safe, reliable operation.
Can you provide power at historic locations?
Here is the breakdown. Yes, we specialize in powering shoots at Iceland's historic locations including historic estates, churches, and covered sites. We set up with venue needs, give appropriate cabling without damage, and make sure compliance with preservation guidelines.
Do you handle tie-ins to venue power?
We set up tie-ins to venue electrical systems where appropriate, working with licensed Icelandic electricians and venue tech staff. We check ready power, arrange short-term connections, and make sure safe disconnection after your shoot.
What about power for remote locations?
For remote exteriors without mains power, we give complete power packs solutions including fuel management, noise mitigation, and multi-day operation. We plan logistics to make sure uninterrupted power across your shoot.
How do you ensure electrical safety on set?
All gear is PAT tested and well rated. We use RCD protection across, employ licensed electricians, and follow Icelandic electrical safety rules. Detailed records and safety briefings make sure crew awareness.
